Interseeded pennycress and camelina yield and influence on row crops

Field pennycress (Thlaspi arvense L.) (PC) and winter camelina [Camelina sativa (L.) Crantz] (WC) have the potential to provide ecosystem services economic incentives when adopted as an oilseed cover crops in corn (Zea mays L.)–soybean [Glycine max Merr.] rotations. However, PC WC establishment yield northern Corn Belt their subsequent impact on row are not well known. This study was conducted determine effects of interseeding dates (R4, R5, R6; R6, R7, R8 development stages for soybean, respectively) crop species (PC, WC, rye [Secale cereale L.]) seed oil content interseeded oilseeds (PC WC) relay 3rd-year grain quality. Study sites were initiated near Ames, IA; Morris Rosemount, MN; Prosper, ND. Late resulted greater yield. Overall yields (218–880 kg ha–1) (15–770 ha–1), averaged across dates, low soybean. The reduced relay-soybean by 13–32% 13–42%, respectively. quality following soybean affected residual crops. Based results our study, we do recommend cropping with upper Midwest.
